Australia’s democracy is stronger than most. But right now, it’s facing serious threats on multiple fronts.  

Online, misinformation moves faster than facts, and lies and distortion dominate. Money and vested interests can have a louder say than ordinary Australians, and political campaigns are too often built on attack ads and spin, not real plans and vision. On top of all of this, AI is making the threats to our democracy even worse.  

We urgently need our political decisionmakers to act.  

That’s why we’re calling on all parties to release their plan for how they will renew and protect our democracy.  
 

We want to see common-sense reforms that put people first:  

• Support modern civics and media literacy education

• Implement truth in political advertising laws 

• Regulate lobbying so that politics works for all and not just some 

• Create greater independence for public service appointments 

• Increase funding for public interest journalism 

• Protect our nation from disinformation and interference through social media
